Edit: 3/3/08: Per suggestions I have tweaked the image some to make it a little better. The cheek is a bit larger, better smudging of dark hairs, face is a little cleaner, and on a personal note I desaturated a little of his feathering. To blue. Thank you all for your help!

I colored him!! No outlines! For original sketch, click here: [link]

A mate for Siren: [link] . Don't know his magic, but he is perdy! He appeared more dynamic on a dark background.

Download for 300dpi to see detail/texture. Please, please, please give me a heavy critique and any suggestions!

He was supposed to be very black, but he came out very blue... not that I am complaining here!

Whoa!! Now that is one handsome critter! Lovely details on the hair and I'm loving the lack of an outline! I gotta try that sometime XP

You should! It is a fresh challenge. Besides, I fail at digital outlines.

I fail at outlines too... but it's harder (to me) to not use any =/

the only thing i see thats off is the cheek.. it looks a bit too small everything else looks perfect to me. and you know he could just have the blue from the lighting (or that could be the excuse lol). i love his long tail!! beautiful character!

Thank you so much. I suppose his cheek is too small... i thought his nose was too big... something just seemed "off". Thanks for catching it. Glad you like it!

yeah at first i thought it was his nose as well but looking at it closer its his cheek, if you made it a bit bigger his nose would look perfect i think.

I applaud you for including the 300 dpi option, because even though it takes a long time to load on my slow computer, the improved detail is well worth it. Horse anatomy can be a very tricky thing, but you've got it down pat.
Critique wise, the only thing that I notice is that the darkest hairs of the mane/hoof hair/tail stand out quite a lot on the hi-res version, and that they could be blended in with the rest of the gorgeous hair a little more.

I've started including 300 dpi on my newer uploads, just in case anyone cares. I do agree with you on the dark hairs. I noticed later on that some I didn't blend at all. Guess I saw the finish line and rushed a bit too much. Thank you for such a kind comment!
