Okay. First journal entry in almost a year...

Hi! I'm not dead!!

I've been writing a book! I am finished with the second draft and taking a break for about a month before I begin the third draft which is a major rewrite. But you guys don't need to know all about that... you want to know about art!

So, anyway. I've been meeting up with an artsy friend on Tuesday's and spending about 3 hours drawing. So you will see little random things from me here and there as I try to strike a balance between hobbies. Currently I am working on a larger piece involving a horse (of course), digital, and a combination of elements. Sort of along the same vein as my spindly legged horses... but not. Anyway, its coming out good so maybe I'll get at least ONE piece done this year...

... but once I dive back into the book, I don't really know what will happen other than random drawings here and there.

A different path

So, I was hoping to break into a more professional art ring, which would have required making a portfolio... It just didn't happen. I thought my weekly drawing sessions (nudes) would continue, but the baby only wanted mommy and that fell through. Everything fell through. My years of insomnia could only train me so well for the 1st 5 months of my baby's life.

So the little one is 18 months old now and while I have no art to show for my hiatus I at least have my sanity and my darling little girl.

I tried to get back into it a couple months ago, but I am creatively dry in that arena so I started writing a book. I'm not even half done with the first draft, but I'm getting there. Anyway, the target audience for the book is 12-14 year old girls and it is a fantasy novel involving a girl, unicorns, pegasus, a dragon, and some other species I can't lock down. So, when I am done with the first draft I am hoping to begin drawing again now that I will have a pool of inspiration from my book. I am having to hold myself back from making character reference sheets already.

Eyeballing some prismacolor pencils for my birthday. Something will start up later in the year I'm hoping.

And maybe... juuuuust maybe... in a few years the book will be published. Maybe.

Okay, I'm going to do this! (SERIOUS art update)

I want to sell my art. I want to make enough money to support my art addiction. My digital stuff doesn't have much of a market even though all you lovelies really enjoy it (as do I, trust me). On top of that, each piece takes 10-40 hours and lets face it... I'm not good enough to compete with most other artists in that arena.

My solution is to delve into charcoal, graphite, and watercolor (maybe other stuff too) and come up with a large enough collection to have a decent portfolio (maybe a year??) Then I will begin selling on Etsy or something.

I go to art festivals here in town and I'm looking at a lot of stuff people make and I keep finding myself saying "I can do that" or even "I can do BETTER than that" and they are selling originals for $200-$750 (depending on size, skill, and time spent). So why the hell don't I try? If nothing else I will get better at these mediums. So, you are probably going to be seeing a lot more nudes from me (currently still doing figure drawing until the baby comes and hoping to do more afterwards). I will of course probably start doing horses in traditional medium. I haven't really decided where my watercolor is going to go yet, but I have a feeling it will probably be fantasy based and perhaps more stylized. Ink would also be fun to play with again.

I get a lot of positive responses for my stylized, digital horses and I know that is why a lot of people watch me, buuuuuut I need to stop using deviantart for instant gratification and begin looking into what I can really accomplish.

How on earth this is going to work with a baby on the way? I have no idea, but I will figure it out. I'm currently 8 months pregnant. Wish me luck! I'm going to need it.

The supposedly innocent words were spoken by the 16-year-old girl as she lay on her hospital bed, tears softly falling one by one onto the pure white sheets, darkening and blotching the crisp white. She held onto the hand of her boyfriend, who held onto hers. A slightly puzzled expression on his face etched into the other emotions there. His own cheeks were blotched with the few embarrassed tears he had spent in the waiting room.
“What do you mean?” he asked, putting his other hand over hers.
“I was-” she tried to speak but silent sobs stopped her. Her eyes floated up, where she had been so sure she was going to go, and where she had even prayed to go.
The door opening was heard, though neither moved a muscle, completely frozen in emotion. The discomfort of the doctor could be heard companied by the shuffling of feet. “I'm sorry, do you want me to come back later?”
